Albert Lea Housing & Redevelopment Authority (ALHRA) is dedicated to providing quality, safe, and well-maintained housing opportunities to eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Our Public Housing Program encompasses a diverse range of housing units, tailored to meet the needs of our community.
Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our “High Performer” rating received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in 2016, recognizing our adherence to the highest standards of unit physical conditions.
Rent in our Public Housing Program is affordable and considerate of our residents’ financial situations, being based on 30% of the household’s adjusted monthly income or on the property’s flat rent. This approach ensures that quality housing remains accessible to those who need it most.
Additionally, the HRA manages 8 units of Rural Development Housing at Glenville Apartments, located in Glenville, Minnesota. The rent for these apartments is based on income eligibility, and they are open to tenants who receive assistance through the Housing Choice Voucher Program. At ALHRA, we believe in supporting our residents beyond just providing housing. We conduct biennial inspections and scoring by contractors for HUD, ensuring our properties always meet the highest standards of living conditions.
ALHRA proudly manages and maintains 176 Public Housing units. The Shady Oaks High-rise is a 126 unit structure designated as “general occupancy” (all high-rise units are one-bedroom rentals). This high-rise is designed to offer comfortable living spaces in a community-centric environment. The ALHRA Public Housing portfolio also includes 50 scattered site rentals that are two, three, and four-bedroom single-family homes and duplexes.
