How to Apply
Public Housing
Download and Complete the Application: Start by downloading, printing, and completing the Public Housing Application form. This is your first step towards securing housing.
Submit Your Application: Once you have filled out the application, you can submit it by either postal mailing it or bringing it directly to our office. Please note that we do not accept applications via fax.
Application Review and Selection: After submitting your application, our staff will review it. Selection for the waitlist is based on various eligibility criteria, preference points, and a lottery draw system.
Notification: If you are selected for the waitlist, we will inform you using the contact details provided in your application.
To apply for housing, interested individuals are encouraged to visit our HRA office at 800 S 4th Avenue in Albert Lea, MN, or to call us at (507) 377-4375 for any queries regarding Public Housing Assistance. We are here to guide you through every step of the application process and to help you find a home that meets your needs.
Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8)
Note: The waiting list for the Housing Choice Voucher Program is currently closed.
Applications Submitted Before Closure: Applications received before January 10, 2023, are placed on the waiting list in the order they were received.
Future Openings: New applicants will be considered for assistance as current voucher holders exit the program.
Announcement of Waiting List Reopening: When the waiting list reopens, announcements will be made in the Albert Lea Tribune newspaper, on the City of Albert Lea bulletin board, and the Albert Lea Housing & Redevelopment Authority bulletin board.
